In the season four The Next Generation episode "The Wounded," we're introduced to the Cardassians, a species that has until recently been at war with the Federation and which will become very important in Deep Space Nine. Captain Benjamin Maxwell of the Phoenix has ordered his ship to carry out attacks inside Cardassian space and the Enterprise-D, along with Cardassian military observers on board the ship, pursue the Phoenix. We also learn more about Chief O'Brien's background and his involvement in the Cardassian War as he tries to deal with what he went through during a traumatic time.

In this episode of Earl Grey, hosts Richard Marquez, Amy Nelson, and Justin Oser discuss the powerful and important episode "The Wounded." We talk about our thoughts on the look of the Cardassian ships, uniforms, and the Cardassians themselves, O'Brien's struggle with his feelings toward a former enemy, and whether Maxwell is more motivated by exposing what the Cardassians are doing or by what happened to his family.
